How to Green Up Your Lawn?

Nothing looks more appealing than a landscape that has vibrant emerald green grass. However, a dull lawn with brownish-yellow grass can put a damper to your home’s entire curb appeal. Trying to keep your grass lush green year-round can be pretty challenging, especially if you don’t know what your grass needs to grow quickly and remain healthy. The trick lies in following a few practices that promote grass growth year around.
Here are a few things you can do to make your lawn look lush green and healthy.
Mow your lawn regularly
Mowing the lawn is a task that no one wants to pick up willingly. And as a result, you may cut your lawn less than it requires to grow quickly, especially during summers. You may need to mow your lawn every 3 to 4 days during summer to ensure heavy growth. Also, make sure that your lawn mowers’ blades are sharp so that the grass isn’t damaged during mowing.
Water your lawn deeply
Many people water the lawn frequently but do it for a short duration, which doesn’t give time to the grass to absorb the water properly. Instead of watering your lawn every day for 30 minutes, water for more extended periods at least two or three times a week. To check whether the water is deep enough, check whether it has seeped at least an inch deep into the soil. Watering your lawn deeply for more extended periods allows the roots to grow deeper, making your grass strong and healthy.
Spread nitrogen fertilizers
If you are watering your lawn correctly and still there is not enough growth, then the most common reason would be a lack of nutrients in the soil. Try applying nitrogen-rich fertilizer to your lawn. Nitrogen gives you grass the boost it requires to grow quickly, resulting in a thick growth that’s healthy and lush. However, too much nitrogen can also damage your lawn, so limit the application to once or twice a year.
Add an iron supplement
Nitrogen may provide the grass the boost it needs to grow nicely and thickly; however, it won’t give you the rich emerald green color you may want on your lawn. For that, you need to add iron supplements to your soil. Iron is the nutrient responsible for the deep green shade created by increasing chlorophyll in the grass blades. The best time to add an iron supplement is during spring when the temperature inst too high or too low.
Remove any weeds
Weeds take over the nutrients and water you provide your grass, leaving your lawn dull and brown. So no matter how many fertilizers you add or water you provide if the weeds aren’t removed, your lawn grass cannot thrive. Therefore, de-weed your lawn regularly to see the fruits of your labor.
